La Sala Viladrau

Framed by the imposing crests of the Serrat de l’Oriol and Sant Segimon, and perched atop a small hill carved by the Erola stream and the Rentadors torrent, stands the majestic Sala de Viladrau. This farmhouse, a witness to distant eras and a stage for legendary chapters in the history of Catalonia, is a monument to the past, preserving its essence since the 14th century.

Restoration of a historic farmhouse

En curso

The restoration of this monumental farmhouse, with more than seven centuries of history in the Catalan countryside, is being carried out under strict criteria of absolute heritage preservation. Every stone, every lintel, every trace of the old wall and the 14th-century watchtower is treated with the delicacy that such a valuable legacy deserves. This is not merely an architectural work but also a historical treasure: the birthplace, in 1594, of the famous bandit Joan Sala i Ferrer, known as Serrallonga, a legendary figure in Catalan history.

The restoration fully respects the fortified character of the Domus, as well as the central body of the farmhouse, dating from the 17th century, maintaining intact the structures that have withstood the passage of time. The intervention criteria focus on restoring and consolidating the original elements with the utmost historical fidelity, without altering the monumentality that has defined the Sala de Viladrau for centuries.

Every detail has been meticulously studied—from the windows and doors to the stone walls and century-old beams—respecting the spirit of the 14th century to ensure that the farmhouse preserves its majesty and authenticity. This intervention not only safeguards the past but also allows the Sala de Viladrau to remain a living testimony to Catalan history, framed by the imposing beauty of its natural surroundings.
